India: Displaced Children of Orissa
In August 2008, tens of thousands of Christians in the Kandhamal District of Orissa state, India were forced from their villages by militant Hindus. Dozens of Christians were killed and hundreds of homes and churches were destroyed. Even after more than a year, many of these Christians are still living in tents in refugee camps or have been forced to flee the area. By the grace of God, some of the children from Kandhamal have been taken to another state where they are safe and being cared for by compassionate Christians. When these children arrived, they were traumatized by what they witnessed in their villages and by being separated from their parents, some of whom died in the attacks. Recently a VOM Canada team dropped into visit these children, who are finding healing and peace because of the love and care they are receiving. VOMC assists persecuted Christians with legal support and rehabilitation assistance, and cares for children of martyrs by providing them with a safe place to be nurtured physical and spiritually. VOMC also partners to equip Christians in India with Biblical training and works to strengthen and support marginalized and persecuted Christian women. Additionally, VOMC helps to provide medical assistance to believers who have faced injuries after being attacked.”

Despite the intimidation and violence that have taken place in many of India's states, may Christians wisely yet unashamedly preach the Gospel. Pray that indigenous Christians and foreign missionaries will minister in ways that do not hint at fraudulent conversions, unmasking the intentions behind the anti-conversion legislation. Intercede for India's leaders, that they may reign with justice and righteousness.

More Christians Sentenced Under Anti-Conversion Laws

Christians Injured in Church Attack

Photo: Flickr / United Nations Development Programme (CC)More than 25 Christians – including children and elderly believers – were injured when a worship service was violently disrupted by Hindu nationalists on May 31st. The attack occurred in the village of Sadrapal, which is located within Chhattisgarh State, as more than 60 Christians gathered for worship. Among those injured were Pastor Hunga Mandavi and his pregnant wife. During the assault, the attackers demanded that the congregants renounce their faith in Christ.

Christian Families Denied Access to Basic Resources
