Nigeria: Overcoming Persecution
Nigeria: Overcoming Persecution
Nigeria is considered the most dangerous country in the world to be a Christian. Each year, more believers are killed for their faith in this West African nation than in all the other countries of the world combined. The dangers are most prevalent in the northern region of the country where violence and targeted attacks are part of daily life.
This week's featured video report focusses on Northern Nigeria where persecution is evident in many forms. Not only do Christians frequently face systemic discrimination in their workplaces and schools, girls and young women are often kidnapped, forcibly converted to Islam, and then married to Muslim men against their will. And, every year, thousands of believers are killed for following Jesus. These persecution tactics are intended to demoralize and silence the Nigerian church in the north.
Yet, in spite of the many challenges, persecution has not stopped the growth of the church in this region. Rev. Joseph John Hayab, the Chairman for the Christian Association of Northern Nigeria, leads us in prayer for the persecuted church in the north.
