Nigeria: Pastor Gideon Dawel's New Home
In Nigeria, Christians face significant persecution. For several years, the country has been regarded as one of the most violent places in the world for followers of Jesus. In northern Nigeria, 12 states have implemented Islamic law, creating an environment in which Christians are often treated as second-class citizens, and where conversion from Islam can carry serious consequences. In recent years, violence has intensified and spread into southern regions of the country. Each year, more believers are killed for their faith in Nigeria than in all other countries of the world combined. While statistics help illustrate the scale of the crisis, they cannot fully convey the devastating personal losses experienced by countless families.
Two years ago, Greg Musselman, VOMC's Global Ambassador, shared the heartbreaking story of Pastor Gideon Dawel, whose pregnant wife and five daughters were tragically killed in an attack by Islamic militants. Their home was also destroyed.
Recently, Greg returned to Nigeria to reconnect with Pastor Gideon and present him with the keys to a newly built home. Made possible through the support of VOMC and HMK Germany, the house represents far more than a place to live. It is a tangible reminder of God's faithfulness, the compassion of the global church, and the hope that remains even after unimaginable loss.
